The answer is yes, God’s Spirit lives in us if we have been born again. He “indwells us” as Jesus promised [John 14:16-17] Perhaps a better question would be–is God’s Spirit living in us in such a way that He is making a difference in our lives?
That we are pleasing God because we are no longer controlled by our sinful nature?
Paul writes: “Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace. …Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
“You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness…through His Spirit, who lives in you.”
If our spirit is to be alive because of righteousness, He must live actively in us. He is present, but is He manifesting His life? [Eph. 5:18]
Do we ask for that? Do we welcome His living in and through us? [Luke 11:13]
Do we surrender self that He can? [Matt. 6:10, Luke 9:23]
Pray with us — Father, we ask for Your Holy Spirit to live in us today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
